Advent 2024
The passage of scripture that inspired the Advent art this year was Isaiah 9:2,
“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness.”
As believers, we are called to place this light of Jesus on a pedestal for all to see. (Matthew 5:15).
The color of the flame coincides with the color of the candles we light as a part of our Advent service every week. The candle for the first Sunday of Advent, a purple candle, represents hope; the hope that was known to the prophets of the Old Testament. The second purple candle for the second week of Advent signifies love; love like that which was shared between Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem, despite all of the unknowns. The third week’s candle is pink and represents joy; just like the joy the shepherds experienced after they learned that the Messiah had come. The fourth week is signified by another purple candle, and this candle represents peace; the peace we can all find in the birth of Jesus every day of the year.
Finally, on Christmas, we welcome the Christ candle that flickers and brightly burns into all eternity.
We desire for this art piece to draw us closer to the marvelous light that is Jesus, and remind us how lost we would be without His light in our darkness.
